Are The Tampa Bay Lightnight Going To Be Repossessed?

April 5th, 2009 | by torontosportsmedia

Happy Sunday to you all. Nice winter day we had yesterday, all that was missing was some snow. In any event I had the chance to talk to a Tampa Bay Lightning insider last night and he told me that there this next to no doubt that Palace Sports and Entertainment (owner of the Detroit Pistons and Palace at Auburn Hills) is going to repossess the hockey team it sold to the group that includes Oren Koules and Len Barrie. In fact, despite all reports to the contrary (what are they supposed to say), the report TSM heard was that Ron Campbell will be re-installed to the President’s office to try and get the house back in order. Campbell as you may recall was at the helm when the team won a Stanley Cup. Not from the hockey side, but certainly from the business side. What this means for Tampa Bay as a market wasn’t exactly clear, however one can imagine that it may be a difficult task finding ownership who is interested in buying the Bolts and keeping them in Tampa. I am sure you will see lots more on this soon. I am positive you will see a ton of denials from both the league and ownership group, but this is legit as I am told. The move is likely to take place over the next 6-8 weeks. What this means for Vinny and the rest of the players, one can only imagine.

If I were a Bettn’man, I would wager on it’s only a matter of time until a certain gentleman in Kitchener Waterloo receives an offer he and the NHL BOG can not refuse.
