Julian made some very good points……….I hope he takes the time to post his PTS suggestions on Fadoo like many other people already have………….I really enjoy reading other people’s comments about 590 and 640 and the suggestions they have.

I agree that there are very few sports radio talk show hosts that can go solo and still be entertaining…………..McCown is definitely one of those people…………but in my opinion Lajoie is not

My guess is McCown is tired of taking the calls that seem to bore him. He’s earned a break from it, no question. I’ve also pointed out that though I listen to both 4pm shows, he clearly doesn’t WATCH the NHL or have thoughts on it near as much as Brady and Watters do. That doesn’t make one show better than the other on that alone, it just means the 640 show is more geared towards a hockey fan, and who can argue that?

It seems like a knee-jerk reaction to a couple months of PPM ratings, so it may have been a long time coming. I always think McCown is great on his own though and this 4pm hour, I hope is still just him. He’s got the rare command that he can do a show by himself and not sound like he’s struggling. I’d argue there are three guys in Toronto who can do that: McCown, Roger Lajoie, and Greg Brady. You can debate the merits of each of those guys, but they can do a show on their own, so they’re allowed to. Few others can. God knows the two guys on 590’s morning show cannot.

Anyway, my hope is McCown gets to keep the 4pm by himself and they don’t import the ever-boring John Shannon in an extra hour early. I also wish McCown and Doug MacLean would patch it up. That’s a great dynamic.

Thanks Ram. It’s actually pretty interesting.

With the PPM ratings, they were able to tell that McCown had much bigger ratings in the non phone call segments. So now they’re cutting them mostly out, and Bob’s going to update on how that affects ratings on fadoo.

I heard it too………….very strange………..this doesn’t mean the departure of Bobcat from 590, does it?…………..then again, maybe they are just thinking about getting rid of open phones between 4:00 and 5:00 each day……………or maybe McCown is going on vacation for several weeks…………after all, he has something like 12 weeks of vacation he has to use up and he hasn’t taken any since August because of the recent ratings period

At the beginning of the show today, McCown said something like ‘People are calling in. Perhaps aware that this may be one of their last times to do so’.

No idea what he was talking about. Maybe some changes there or something?
