I’m so sick and tired of hearing the chicken littles proclaim that the cancelation of the Winter Classic is a clear sign of the apocalypse in the hockey world.

Please

Whenever the brains in both camps can stop trying to figure out who is to blame and actually get around to negotiating and a deal gets done, the first order of business will be to restore the Winter Classic.

Yes, I know if it gets cancelled, it won’t come back this year, but it will be back whenever it possibly can. Bet on it.

To the extent the players thought the owners had too much to lose in the event, they are wrong. Who do they think is running the show over in NHL HQ?

Similarly, if the owners think the players are going to freak out because the league has canceled the game they simply aren’t paying attention.

Yes, it’s a marquee event.

Yes, it’s bigger this time with a Canadian team and the Red Wings playing in the big house. Do you think it will be less big whenever the hell they play it???

The notion that the game may struggle to find sponsors as suggested here, is ludicrous.

If sponsors were pissed, they would have already told the teams so and there would be no lockout. Don’t believe it? Take a look at the tweets of the famed executive of the Florida Panthers who tweets every time he lands another sponsor. That’s in Florida folks! If he is landing sponsors in the middle of a lockout, don’t fret much for the Winter Classic.

If both parties think nothing serious will happen until the Winter Classic gets cancelled or is about to, then cancel it. Truth be told, canceling it or not is boring. Get on with it already.

Be honest now in a battle of Halloween costumes who wins, Paulina Gretzky or Tyler Bozak??

Let’s not debate the whole racial thing here okay. But this blog is BANG on…Bozak becomes the new exhibit A of my thesis that there is no dumber animal on the planet then the professional athlete.

Amazing, where did the flash that was once Bryan Colangelo disappear to? This is NOT the same guy the Raptors hired is it?????

Spam knows no bounds. I had to laugh when I got the following email from a Toronto based MSMer this morning:

” I’m writing with tears in my eyes,My family and I came down here to London,United Kingdom for a short vacation, unfortunately we were mugged at the park of the hotel where we stayed all cash, credit card and mobile phone were stolen off us but luckily we still have our passports with us.

We’ve been to the Embassy and the Police here but they’re not helping issues at all the bad news is our flight will be leaving in less than few hrs from now but we’re having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won’t let us leave until we settle the bills.

Am freaked out at the moment! I’ll need your help (LOAN) financially of $1,450 USD. I promise to make the refund once we get back home. Please let me know if you can help and i need you to keep checking your email because it’s the only i can reach you.”

Tricky little email too- was sent from the guy’s account and signed his name.

Can John Farrell please take a few pieces of dead with him to Boston too??????

Happy Halloween!

Maybe NHL has told sponsors they’ll get a piece of HRR recovered from the players.

Oh Goody, the Blackface story again! If nothing else it serves as a reliable measure of social IQ.

One last thought: why would you need to paint your face black to dress up as Michael Jackson?

  3. Another Steve says:

I think it’s much more amusing to listen to the reactions of the social (and sports) media to such “incidents” and the attempt to lecture other people on cultural and social history – lectures that are usually given by people whose knowledge of social and cultural history is limited to a TV show they once saw.

A couple of years ago Andre Agassi dressed up as Mr. T and did the same thing. He did this at a party that was held at his school in Las Vegas, which has a huge percentage of African American kids. Nobody got upset.

Some people just like getting upset, lecturing people, and feeling like they are more intelligent even though they aren’t.

  4. Derrick says:

Because he’s…black?! I don’t see what the big deal is. He’s dressing up as Michael Jackson and putting makeup on to look more like the character. If a woman put on white makeup to look like a geisha girl, would that be offensive?

just glanced at the front page of the Star and saw this headline and lede/sub-head.

DiManno: Star introduces digital subscription because it costs big bucks to put out a decent paper

As readers slag the Star for putting a price on its website, remember that quality writing and reporting are not free.

fuck me … that’s the first time i’ve even thought of “DiManno” and “quality” appearing in the same sentence.

suggested weekend poll: if you could eliminate one media member from the Toronto scene which one would it be?

I’ve always really disliked Steve Kouleas.

I find him annoying on camera, and on twitter he was one of those ‘Canada should have 27 hockey teams, and all other sports should fold/move’ kind of guys. I really dislike that kind of hockey snobbery we see in the Canadian media sometimes.

She would be at or near the top

    Greg Brady!

Pretty sure that spam e-mail sounds like Damien Cox. He gets blamed for everything else on here!
