Normally I ignore items on the lockout but this caught my eye because of the market research angle. It is an interesting read from the Star referencing Deadspin regarding the NHL’s focus group to win the PR war for lockout.
Gee, I was so surprised to read that Bettman did not test well….

Read the article and looked up Luntz Global. Frank Luntz is described as an American political consultant and pollster. Clients unknown but he is involved in arguing against climate change and was involved with the Herman Cain camp, among other things.
My sense is that his group is more concerned with shaping public opinion than actually knowing public opinion.
In light of the offer the NHL has recently made, I wonder how much of an influence this group had if any in preparing the message of that offer, (a kool-aid recipe?)
