Cybulski easily outclassed Bob today, with Cybul and Macko going hard at each other over David Stern, and Beckham. Very funny part was Macko’s rant about waiting for his order of soup today – hilarious(trust me). Only listened to the PTS because the excellent Shannon was on. He didn’t disappoint – riffing on baseball’s BAM, the Heat vs Leafs local tv money, etc. I just read something about BAM which I never heard of before Shannon mentioned it. Last year it made $620 million in revenue. BAM isn’t just about digital baseball content. It also handles all of live online video for ESPN, and most of the live events that appear on CBSSports.com, including March Madness and the Masters.

Meanwhile Bob is apparently going to personally send an auditor to Ottawa to find out about the Grey Cup profits. God preserve my sanity.

It was great for Cybul and PTS to spend time talking about Beckham. For a long time, like a lot of people, I couldn’t stand Beckham, as I only saw the glitz. I had my mind changed when I read his autobiography “Both feet on the ground”. There were great stories in it like when the Man Utd scout told his mother there were interested in signing him. Beckham didn’t know a scout was watching him that day, when he got home his mother told him, “your lucky you played so well today” and started crying. He also explains all the hairstyles, clothes, et al, and makes it seem more of act of personal expression on his part and not done for commercial purposes. He actually a humble, good guy with an artistic soul. This youtube video seems closer to real Beckham than the media image:

Sorry, I know that I should be back this week reviewing but things in my life job wise have been really hectic lately so I haven’t had time to do any reviews. I should be okay next week, but I’m not sure yet, it depends on some stuff happening. :

    Please come back soon. :)

  4. Ryan says:

Why not just listen to the show yourself?

  5. Another Steve says:

That comment is inane on so many levels. First of all, dude, I do listen to the show quite often. Why is it so bad to have someone write interesting comments about the show? I somehow thought this was a media blog and that’s what people did on media blogs.

So basically your response comes down to “why does this website even exist?”

Of course, you can ignore her write-ups, but some of us do enjoy them. Maybe you can let us/me appreciate something we/I enjoy and you can stick to a topic that interests you.

She provides a great forum for discussion, and I generally find her reviews (and the responses) enjoyable to read – in addition to hearing the shows. I hope that’s ok with you.

After all, something has to be written here other than people who say things such as “why are you writing stuff?” and “your comments are worthless.”

My comment still stands: I enjoy Ami’s reviews a great deal. Apparently some people don’t enjoy them, but who gives a fuck – they don’t have to read them.

And yes, I’m not free from 4-7pm every day, like most people – so it’s nice to have a wrap-up.

    So that’s my answer.

An eight paragraph answer to a simple question? Take a pill.

Cathal Kelly has a nice, slightly different take on Beckham’s contribution to soccer’s growth in North America. Within the article he links to a very interesting piece on ESPN trendspotter Rich Luker. Well worth reading.

Ex-Leaf Mark Bell was the guest on another excellent Sports Beats podcast on TSN1050(Nov. 23). Darrin Pfieffer played some cool songs by Lemon Bucket Orkestra,
Beth Hart (Bang Bang Boom Boom), and one from Prince’s newest discovery Andy Allo.
Pfieffer is a great host. He should sit in some time with Hayes or Cybul. Also mentioned he travelled to Washington to watch the Leafs. A true fan.

  9. Daver says:

I seriously think you’re the only person here who actively listens to TSN Radio.

  10. Itchy Butt says:

…..and the only one that likes Shannon…..and Cathal Kelly…
