  1. Wow Jays fans are angry yesterday and today. O_O

    Not that I blame them. xD I mean, I’m all for AA’s plan and the patience, draft picks, undervalued etc etc thing, but I think what upsets a lot of Jays fans is that he’s not saying that they’re not doing stuff b/c it’s not right (i.e. Fielder’s the wrong fit, something about Darvish wasn’t worth it) but it’s all about money, and that they don’t want to use free agency, or they don’t believe in the posting system, or etc etc… it doesn’t just take away hope from the fanbase, it slams doors shut and makes fans wonder “wait, what can you do that doesn’t offend your principles?”

    Also, the “we’ll spend when you come”, I think all of the fans recognize how backwards a business model that is and it angers them.

    Though, I had a hilarious thought. If they DO sign Fielder, all this talk and all the reaction (“SPEND MONEY AND I’LL COME”) would prolly have put Jays fans in a state of mind to rush and buy seasons tickets because they’re already in that mode, and it’s still fresh on their minds. xD

    Just reported that Pujols signed with the Angels. Looks like the new wild card spot will come out of the west.

    Why are Jays fans angry? Did I miss something?

    People are dreaming in Technicolor if they think Fileder is coming here. The whole “but his Dad played here” is such a moronic stance to take. They don’t even talk to each other!

    Ooops…Fielder……typo

    @itchy butt
    I think the reason for the upset fans is the statement from the Jays is basically we will spend money only after more fans show up. Soon other words, Beetson and AA are crating a situation of if the fans don’t care about the team, why should they spend money. At least that is what it looks like at first blush to me and frankly it is easy to see why people are angry when a very rich company is looking for more money from the average Joe. But that is the way Rogers has always worked as a company and the mantra of money first seems to be fully entrenched in the Jays business model as well.

    I thought this article was a smart rebuttal on some of the fan anger that the Jays don’t appear to be in on Fielder:

    Personally, I’m going to wait to see what happens before getting worked up one way or another. I want a good team, doesn’t have to be an expensive team as far as I’m concerned. There’s plenty of offseason to go and the Jays have a TON of prospects that could be moved.

    With a couple more shrewd trades, and the extra wild card – competing for the playoffs shouldn’t be out of the question for 2012.

  7. Jeff says:

    I’m one of the Jays fans that are glad to hear that the Jays have no interest in Fielder with the contract terms he is seeking. He’s the prototypical Mo Vaughn type of player. Once their skills start diminishing, they go quickly. Fielder will not have a productive 10 years. Then the team gets stuck with the contract albatross. Hey if the Cubs want to do it that’s fine – just NIMBY.

    @Daniel…thanks for posting the link.
    It was a great read!
