Cybulski said on 1050 that today is the one year anniversary of Bob Mackowycz becoming his full time co-host………………….I think I can count on one hand the number of comments on this site about Mackowycz in the last 12 months
Pure and simple question…. Jeff Sammut? Why do people not like him? I personally do like him. He isn’t the most eliquent speaker on the radio but he has better phone topics than simply talking about the Jays or the Leafs or Raptors and how much they suck. That’s my own thought.
i think i’m the only one here who mentions him, usually with the following claim: Mackowycz consistently contributes much more value to interviews than Cybulski. That show is a trainwreck with a simple solution: get rid of the host — everyone else on that show is great but Cybulski is out of his league in this market.
I don’t mind Sammut. Much better than the Rog.
New comment box blows :p
Funny, I was going to say I thought I was the person that mentions him, usually in respect to his pal Marek. I think he’s a good second banana.
If you’re one of those disgruntled “spend more money” Jays fans, you should listen to a podcast of today’s baseball central show. They spent most of the show discussing the topic and made sure to say they were not parroting the company line, emphasizing that both Cosantino and Hayhurst are contracted employees, not full time Rogers employees.
As I said though, I think the concern some people have isn’t necessarily that FAN590/Sportsnet ppl are afraid to be fired if they speak poorly of the Jays but that speaking well of them may provide better opportunities for career advancement. So to those people, the question would be “are they interested in becoming full time Rogers employees?”
Sammut is way better than Lajoie in my opinion, and I think he does a good job filling in for Blair. He has a very rhythmic way of speaking though which I find interesting (neither good nor bad, just interesting, you can really predict exactly how he’s going to say things after a while).
Do a lot of people dislike Sammut? (honest question, I don’t know) He’s pretty serviceable isn’t he?
His voice is too generic for me to know when he’s on when I just flip on 1050 or when he’s talking, so I have trouble tracking which opinions are his.
At least now I know who to blame for that insipid Olympic song. I guess Frew is the newest FOB. He has been on twice in the last 2 months.
Frew was on a bunch before too. And during the Vancouver Olympics, I think either before or after they had him on to talk about the song. Bob namedrops Frew almost every time any guest talks about music.
The issue with Sammut (and Rog and Toth and Cyballsky and etc.) is credibility. They are just talking heads. IMO, I lean on the views of either ex players who have been in room, or broadcasters who have paid a ton of dues (Bob sat thru a million jays games, the Newspaper guys have seen a ton of games of all types or worked a beat, McKenzie knows all levels of hockey)
Sammut is just some guy who did the comedy bits…
Sammut is marginal at best. His rythmic way of speaking is only interrupted by the number of umm’s and uh’s and stammers he has. To me he does great voices and impressions, and that’s about it. I don’t really find his dialogue interesting, and shut him off when he’s on. I’ve tried listening to him, but cannot.
I find Sammut not horrible, but not an ace guy. LOL – stammers huh? Who’s better him or Spider Jones for stammering? Rhetorical question. I can accept your thought Poker Guy; about the stammering and truth be told I don’t like him interviewing guests either but I really enjoy the unique phone topics he has on the show.
