TSN Shuffles The Deck

Thanks to Mike S for pointing this out, proving yet again that I have awesome contributors! TSN has finally made the switch in their day time lineup that everyone thought they should.

Mike Richards loses an hour ending at 9am. This to me is a negative sign of things to come. I’ve made the point a million times that there are tons of people still driving to work after 9am and keeping your morning show on should be a priority. The fact they yanked him isn’t good for the struggling host.

Putting Dan Patrick on live at 9-12 though is awesome. NFL fans will be in heaven. No one gets guests like Patrick. When Blair is talking cfl, MLB or hockey on a Monday morning and people want their football fix, TSN will now have it.

Moving Hayes to pre-drive home is a huge win. The fan has a hole there right now and Hayes is a solid young host.

Yes, you can bet a hockey will show will be added but let’s hope it isn’t the former host.

This is a much better lineup heading into Cybulski and Co.

More tomorrow

good moves by TSN they only make sense. I still belive Bryan Hayes and Cybulski will end up swaping time slots come September and have Hayes go up against the Bobcat.

These are interesting changes, especially when the hiring of Bob Mackowycz as a Cybulski co-host is factored in.

The lineup changes are a bit of a risky move for 1050 because they are moving the only show (Dan Patrick) that did reasonably well in the recent ratings…………it will be interesting to see how the Patrick show does against Blair…………..I am not a big fan of Richards so having his show end an hour earlier is fine with me………….Hayes should do OK against whatever 590 puts in that vacant afternoon slot……………after hearing Mackowycz this past week I wasn’t all that impressed so I don’t think PTS has much to worry about, especially now that the plug has been pulled on Wilbur’s show

The 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. hour of The Mike Richards Show was almost always nothing but replays of interviews from earlier in the show, maybe some of them being played for the third time. I got the impression that Richards had already left the studio at 9 a.m. most days anyway. Four and a half hours was probably at least one hour too long.

He’s been hinting all along the show will be televised soon, although he kept doing the same thing through much of his time at Fan960 in Calgary and it never happened.

It seems as though TSN has maybe told Richards to hold back on the comedy bits and impressions that have been his mainstay since he first started in radio on 1050 (the first time) in 1987. It certainly seems as though almost all of the politically incorrect (or hackneyed, I suppose, depending on your point of view) ethnic voice bits he was still doing during his time in Calgary have disappeared.

I also wonder if the overly heavy focus on the CFL is his choice or TSN’s order. In any case, someone should tell them that in Toronto the Argos and CFL rank well down the list of sports and teams people are interested in hearing about.

I can’t stand Dan Patrick… His show is HORRIBLE. So it fits right in on TSN radio.

I don’t particularly like Jeff Blair, but I will listen to him talk baseball instead of Dan Patrick for sure.

Cybulski and Co. has to go.

As a guy who drives to work after 9am, I agree on the morning show thing… I Love listening to Brady and Lang, when I get the chance.

I love the Dan Patrick show. Happy to hear that it will actually be live now.

I think too many listeners are used to ‘old’ news/sports talk format, and most people (because of the FAN) have been completely sheltered to the (lets call it) new age of news / sports talk.

I’m still a believer that Cybulski and Co, was built around the same logic that the Dan Patrick show is built. It works in the states, unfortunately most canadians are new to it, and see it as a huge change and can’t adapt.

@Dustin – Dan Patrick show works well in that format because he’s Dan Patrick. Who’s James Cybulski?

But what im trying to say is tsn is trying to use the same format.

Nice, I couldn’t get into the flow of the Dan Patrick Show with a whole hour lopped off. I will definitely be listening to that a lot once football season hits.

BTW TSN has snatched the ISR away from Rogers, no great loss to me but I found that interesting. Unless it was mentioned here and I missed it.

@Chris F. Yah, got in the truck this morning heard it on (I normally dont listen to it) and thought, weird i had radio on TSN yesterday why is it back on the Fan. Then realized ISR was now on TSN.

Later in the am. had the choice of Football Sunday with Hogan and Schultz or Summer of Roj, easy choice.

What is ISR? This is a serious question – I have no idea what that acronym means. Racing?

Thanks. This morning I heard LaJoie say something about an altered schedule, but I thought he meant for this week only. Then I realized that it was early Sunday morning and so went back to sleep.

I have heard the ISR a few times in the past few years – usually when I am quite groggy. I used to find it rather amusing because there is one fellow whose accent is so thick that I often can’t understand a word he says. At first I was frustrated by it, but then I realized that he was usually talking about crickett so it didn’t matter much anyway.

Never listened to Roberts so losing the last hour means zip to me, but love Dan Patrick so a national show in that slot works for me. Hayes will be a star on TSN, Cybulski not so much but Macko might help whoever lands there.

    who’s Macko?

Macko is Bob Mackowycz Jr…………….he was recently added by 1050 as a frequent co-host on the Cybulski afternoon show

I think Dan Patrick is the best sports radio show I’ve heard in North America. I love local sports, but it’s nice to get a different perspective. Easily one of the most listenable shows, of any type, on the radio dial. Good move, TSN.

I am waiting for TSN to hire Mike Toth for their radio. He was my favorite on the Fan and I miss listening to him. I know he is on CFRB now, but he is on too early so I never hear him. I miss him and Hogan. Jeff Blair is no comparison.
