What could be done to get more people to watch Canadian college sports?

If it hasn’t happened by now, then there really is no hope. It is like McCown always says and I agree btw, about Americans learning to like hockey outside of the traditional northeastern U.S. markets. They have seen it on television since the 60′s with NBC, and they have decided a long time ago that they don’t care about it. This has been his biggest complaint with Bettman and how the owners run the NHL, ramming the NHL down the throats of markets that couldn’t care less.
In the same way, we have had a fair amount of exposure especially with The Score, in covering Canadian College sports, and with the extra channels that TSN and Sportsnet has, you would think that there are enough platforms both on traditional tv and via the web to show it, but the audiences just have not been there.
Maybe thinking outside the box i.e. start to set gambling lines and allow wagering on the games. A risky affair, considering how vulnerable the kids would be, but it would sure be guaranteed to get more eyeballs watching the games. I do not condone that, and it would be a desperate measure, but at the same time, if you want a potential solution for interest, that would be it.
Personally for me, I went to Concordia University, Loyola Campus, where the Stingers play, and during my undergrad time there, which was the mid-80′s, I never attended a game, or even knew when they were on. Either I was tuned out, or the University did a lousy job of promoting the games, even to their own students. That was a long time ago, but looking back it was more a case of my own lack of interest.
Nothing. I don’t want my college sports here to be just as they are in the States. I come at it from a different perspective, since I teach at universities both in the States and in Canada, and I feel all kinds of pressure in the States to give non-failing grades to athletes who should not be in college, but would never feel such pressure to do so in Canada.
School spirit is a lot of fun. I left my office at McMaster yesterday just as the kids were having a huge parade for their football team, and it looked like a great time – for the kids. But I don’t want to see Canada turn into the massive cesspool of academic corruption that enshrouds the US collegiate athletic system.
A BETTER WEEKEND POLL: Do you think 680News would have spent (at least) 12 tweets describing the “news” of the earth jumper Felix Baumgartner if Rogers hadn’t also been televising it on Sportsnet? I guess this is the same question as whether the CFL would be so prominently featured on TSN if it wasn’t the sole (?) rights holder? This whole “convergence” thing makes me ill.
Whatever is left of Canadian College Sports on tv will totally disappear once ” Robbers” takes total control of The Score..
@disqus_NJPbKzcm1K:disqus My favourite is when a car has a flat tire on a dead end street in Pickering
680 & City some how works it into their traffic report..” but it is not slowing things down on the Gardener past the Rogers (ROBBERS) center…
It seems like loads of people were tweeting about the jump, from a variety of media outlets (and countries). The oddest thing about it may have been how Brunt got sucked into the story earlier in the week.
