College of Sports Media Game of the Night:
The two teams that have done the most at the trade deadline play the first of three starting tonight in the City By the Bay. The reigning World Series Champions, the Philadelphia Phillies, pulled off a huge trade acquiring last seasons AL Cy Young Award winner Cliff Lee and Ben Francisco from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for four top prospects. There were several rumours surrounding the Phillies and the Toronto Blue Jays, but its seems the asking price for Jay ace Roy Halladay was too steep for Philadelphia.

Their opponents this evening, San Francisco Giants, have little to no chance of catching the NL West division leading Dodgers, so making changes to keep on top of the wild card race will be their only way of getting into post season play. Like the Phillies, the Giants pilfered a bottom-dwelling Indians team, swapping a left-handed pitcher for first baseman Ryan Garko. Keeping up with the trend of preying on crap teams, the Giants also picked up second baseman Freddy Sanchez from the Pittsburgh Pirates for a right-handed pitcher The Giants sure seem to have a steady flow of young pitching and are willing to improve their team by trading them. (Maybe you should take note J.P. Ricciardi).

Rodrigo Lopez (3-0) gets the start in tonight’s match up for Philadelphia. San Francisco turns to Jonathan ‘No-hitter’ Sanchez (3-9). Garko is already in San Frans line up, while Sanchez will be out for a couple days with an inflammation in his left knee. Lee on the other hand may gets his first start in a Philly uniform in game three of this series. His opponent, last seasons NL Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum

College of Sports Media Game of the Night:
The hottest team in baseball, the Philadelphia Phillies, open up a three game set against the Chicago Cubs who are on a bit of a streak themselves. The Phillies have won eight straight games and lead their division by at least six and a half games. The Cubs have won four and are looking to close the two game gap over division leading St Louis. Fifth starter Rodrigo Lopez (1-0) gets the call for Philly. He’ll need to be impressive as his job is on the line. Before the all star break the Phillies signed Pedro Martinez to a one year deal, but wouldn’t be available to the team until at least July 30. On the mound for the Cubbies is their only all star Ted Lilly (9-6). In Lilly’s last start he held the Cardinals to only four hits over eight innings and earned his 100th win.
