Damien On The Monster

Damien squeaked an interesting post on to his blog today. He had info I hadn’t seen on the Monster’s visit to Toronto and provided some great insight into the savvy of one Brian Burke.
“When Gustavsson walked into the home dressing room of the Air Canada Centre last Saturday, he was greeted by the jerseys of all the Leaf goaltenders over the years, from Johnny Bower to Turk Broda to Terry Sawchuk to Felix Potvin to Curtis Joseph with, of course, a No. 50 with the name “Gustavsson” occupying the final stall. Gustavsson also toured some local real estate and even saw a local nursing facility where his girlfriend of two years, a registered nurse who missed the trip because of a terrible fear of flying, may find employment.”
Now that is cool. No, maybe the buds didn’t have all that bling that the other teams had. No he didn’t meat a former US President or throw out the first pitch at a baseball game, but he it sounds like Burke put on one hell of a hockey show for Gustavsson. That’s pretty damn cool if you ask me.

Love Burke’s approach….
Read Cox’s full post…I still don’t understand the relationship between the Monster signing and re-signing Pogge…Jonas will presumably back-up Toskala…Unless there is another 20-something goalie prospect that they want to groom in the AHL, why not re-sign Pogge and work with him….he’s a young asset…perhaps a late bloomer? Goalies can take time. Someone please explain????
I wonder if Toskala’s jersey was amongst the ones displayed? if not, what would that say to the monster in regards to how the Leafs respect their players.
Eggbert – It probably says that they don’t stupidly lionize guys that have provided shitty goaltending for two years.
Pension Plan Puppets- Toskala was shitty the year before last?
