“speculation about an Antropov and Stralman deal to Columbus for injured goalie Pascal Leclaire. The Blue Jackets netminder is out for the remainder of the season after undergoing ankle surgery.”
That from the good folks over at the Globe and Mail.
“The Leafs were involved in two bits of trade speculation yesterday — that they were haggling with the Boston Bruins and Columbus Blue Jackets over possible moves. But Burke denied he’s talking to either club.”
Denial, you all will remember is more then a river in Egypt.
Leaf fans, would you make that deal? Keep this in mind:
“If the Leafs were to make such a move and keep starter Vesa Toskala, they would have $7.8-million tied up in their goalies next season. Leclaire has two more seasons after this one at $3.8-million each. Toskala has one more season left at $4-million.”

If Toskala has surgery over the summer, that’s really going to hurt moving him. Then what, stash him in the minors? And what message does that send to Pogge?
We’re screwed. Pogge needed to come up here and run with the ball, and while the team didn’t play all that great in front of him, he was pretty bad himself.
That’s a steep price for a goalie that’s a) unwanted by CBJ, and more importantly, b) quite injury prone, as evidenced by his game totals (he’s played one season over 50 games and that was last year). An Antropov AND Stralman for Leclaire deal would not be a good deal at all.
I’m with bkblades – that’s a high price for a goalie we don’t need next year…..Is he that good? Doesn’t sound very durable.
Is there a pick thrown in there like Columbus’ 1st? Then you have to pull the trigger on that.
I dunno, Leclaire had one good year and then signed a long term extension. I don’t really care what the cap number is, the Leafs shouldn’t be anywhere near the top in the league unless they pick up a lot of dead weight from other teams to get their 1st rounders. I’m just not sold on Leclaire being as good here as in Columbus, where he played behind a Hitchcock team.
Pogge is not the answer, time to move on.The Leafs should sign a journeyman goalie in the off season(Legace,Weeks…blah blah blah) to hold the fort until the team is on the rise.
Whether Pogge is a bust or not shouldn’t mean the Leafs make a trade for any goalie, especially one with so many question marks like Leclaire. Obtaining a viable goalie for the Leafs is fine, but we can’t compound that mistake by overpaying or making the wrong judgment call again (as everyone knows, the Leafs are still recovering from JFJ’s goalie trades).
