I’m with budfan. Comparing crime in Detroit versus crime in any major Canadian city is ludicrous. They’re not on the same level.

Armstrong’s remark is a tired, lame stereotype couched as a joke, but it’s not a reach by any means.

sometime stereotypes exist for a reason – ie because it’s actually a fact. detroit is one of the most dangerous cities in north america. according to this table it has the highest violent crime and murder rates….

Thanks Budfan. Appreciate the feedback. I don’t disagree with you, but there are some pretty scary places in Toronto too. When people talk about Toronto they don’t ask if a gun was pulled on them. The gun/violence point is nothing more then a stereotype. For someone like Armstrong (whom if you read my stuff you know I happen to review favorably) is irresponsible. The old adage says, it’s one thing to think it, another to say it……

Hey, I love your website and your daily commentary but you may be a little too sensitive about the Detroit comment. I previously worked for Chrysler and was down to Detroit on numerous occassions for work and visiting relatives. There are some great areas but also some scary places. I agree with you that Detroit is now suffering through some terrible times and feeling the effects of the manufacturing slump.
