(I was trying to be tongue in cheek with the Symantic- clearly no one got it)

You know this whole thing about Mats not being a rental player is utter crap. It’s about as much crap as the Raptors saying they aren’t out of it yet. Ok, for all the morons out there who are saying he isn’t a “rental player”, let’s look at his entire quote from February 23, 2008:

“”I never believed in rental players to start with,” Sundin told reporters. “I think if you want to be part of the team that has a chance to win the Stanley Cup or a team that is going far in the playoffs, my opinion has always been that you want to be there from training camp or the start of the season to be part of the group.”

So, to Bill Watters, Mike (Shaky) Walton and everyone else who is trying to play this he isn’t a rental player, fine, he isn’t a rental player, I will play that stupid ass game. I mean look at this dribble from his best friend:

“”I think people are missing the point,” Walton said. “Going to Vancouver in December is not being a rental player. Being traded at the deadline and playing for four weeks for a team and then into the playoffs, that’s a rental player.”

FINE- HE’S NOT A RENTAL PLAYER!

“my opinion has always been that you want to be there from training camp or the start of the season to be part of the group.”

You only get one excuse folks, if you want to play the (insert 2 year old voice here) “He’s not a rental player” card, fine….Don’t tell me know he is allowed to change his mind! You get one excuse, not as many as it takes. HE LIED. HE LOOKED INTO THE CAMERAS AND LIED. HE SPOKE INTO THE MICROPHONES AND LIED. You know what all you apologists, it’s fine. JUST ADMIT IT. It doesn’t make him a traitor, it doesn’t mean he owed the team anything. It means HE LIED. Lots of people do. Lots of people tell way worse. Open your mouths and say it “MATS SUNDIN LIED”.

I love, by the way that Sundin, as Greg Brady called him yesterday, the Canucks 6th, 7th or 8th (I can’t remember) forward, got picked up by friends (Shaky?) at the airport and taken to his Forest Hill Hotel. Someone in the business, if any of you read this, tell me, how many players when on the road with their team don’t actually spend the night in the hotel with their team prior to the game? Ok, let me clarify. How many don’t at least have a room in the hotel where the rest of the team is staying? I am sure a lot of guys sleep elsewhere :) Does anyone else find it odd that this guy, who was the heart and sole of the team can’t stand the heat of staying in a hotel???? What, there would be press and fans around??? GIVE ME A BREAK! Your a professional athlete. Grow up and grow a pair. I have said this a million times. I liked Sundin as a player here. I had no problems with when he played here. I didn’t like that he used to sneak out of the locker-room to avoid the press (do you see a pattern), but I blame management for allowing him and others to do that. All this babying of him, he isn’t a rental player, he didn’t do this, he didn’t do that. How old is the guy???? Stop treating him like a baby. Which Maple Leaf was it who said it felt like he was playing for the Leafs again? Give me a break. The guy is human. He keeps saying after the puck drops it will be like any other game. Fine, then let’s treat it that way! Go out and knock him off the puck and blast him through the boards (if you can catch him :) )

I actually (I am putting on the bullet proof vest as I type this) thought Rosie DiManno had a decent (I didn’t say good, I said decent) article this am on the whole thing. She had as good a prespective from Sundin as is out there. However, as she always does, she ends the article with utter garbage:

“And it is a life sentence, being Leaf captain, even when the term has been served.”

Proving of course that she has no business writing about sports as my dog knows as much as she does….

MATS IS NOT A RENTAL PLAYER.

Rental players join teams at the trade deadline, with about 14 or 15 games left to go.

Ask yourself one question: did Mats Sundin join the Canucks at the trade deadline, with 14 or 15 games remaining in the season?

I’ll answer it for you: NO.

He’s no rental. But you keep telling yourself he is.

And, again, it’s not a lie, b/c he spoke as a man who was all but retired.

But, keep telling yourself you were lied to. If it makes you feel better about the whole situation, great.

As I said Eye…I am willing to give you the rental part. I have stopped telling myself that. However, look at the his quote:

“I think if you want to be part of the team that has a chance to win the Stanley Cup or a team that is going far in the playoffs, my opinion has always been that you want to be there from training camp or the start of the season to be part of the group.”

He said that, near tears, almost as with the same emotion as he showed last night. Then he went out and did the exact opposite. It’s his right to do that. However, that makes him a liar. He said something, he said something strong about his convictions, something he has “always felt” and then did the exact opposite. He went in the direct opposite direction of his own feelings. That makes him a liar. It’s fine, denial is more then a river in egypt my friend, what ever makes you feel good about him. I have no problem with that.

As I said, I have no issues with Sundin. He was a great Leaf. I liar, but a great Leaf.
