Toronto Raptors Making the Playoffs:Mission Impossible?

April 14th, 2010 | by lt67

One game.

That’s all that separates the Toronto Raptors and the Chicago Bulls in the race for the final playoff spot in the East. That’s also all that’s left on the schedule for both teams. On Wednesday, the Bulls will battle the Charlotte Bobcats and the Raptors will face the New York Knicks to decide who’ll move on to the postseason.

In the latter game, Toronto should post an easy win over New York at the Air Canada Centre. The Raptors finally got their act together against the Detroit Pistons on Monday, shooting 60 percent from the field and tallying 111 points. Heck, even Hedo Turkoglu, the man better known in these parts as a pitchman for pizza, almost had a double-double with eight points and eight boards. On the flip side, New York’s David Lee and Danilo Gallinari will pose a challenge to Toronto’s defence. However, with the Raptors 3-0 record against the Knicks this year, Toronto is probably going to follow the script and complete the season sweep. With that, all they’ll need is a Bulls’ loss to make the playoffs.

But after watching Chicago drop the Boston Celtics 101-93 on Tuesday, it doesn’t look good for Toronto. The Bulls are a game up on the Raptors and just need one win to clinch. They’re also on a roll, winners of three of their last four. Derrick Rose in particular has been playing like a man possessed, with 65 points in the last two games. Even if Charlotte plays their regular starters, they’ll be facing a motivated team that’s playing well and fighting for their playoff lives. Did I mention that it doesn’t look good for the Raptors?

For the Toronto fans that are going to the game on Wednesday, enjoy it. Because it’ll likely be the last Raptors home game of the season.
