Leaf updates on Jonas Frogren and Bryan McCabe

Nice piece in the National Post (yes they do have a sports section!) which you can find here.

Here are the key take away’s:

On Jonas Frogen:

The necessary paperwork still needs to be filed and the appropriate monies paid to buy the release of the stay-at-home defenceman, who skated for his national side at the 2008 world championships in Quebec and Halifax.

and on McCabe,:

“We not shopping the guy, we are not waiting to hear offers,” Fletcher said. “We are going to sit down with Bryan next month and see if there is a resolution to this situation. But it will all be done very amicably.”

Fletcher was asked what, exactly, the situation with McCabe was.

“”There is no situation,” he replied. “He is under contract … for three more years.”

McCabe’s agent, Jeff Solomon, did not return a phone message left yesterday. But Leafs coach Ron Wilson may have sent McCabe a message on July 1 during a conversation about Finger.

Toronto’s new bench boss said Finger would fit nicely beside one of the Leafs more offensive defenders. Wilson named Kubina and Kaberle as examples while omitting McCabe, a 15-goal man with 57 points two seasons ago.

“I think Bryan understands where we’re coming from,” Fletcher said. “We are not looking for offers because he has expressed his position that he is not interested in being traded right now, and so we are not going to waste another team’s time.”

One thing about Cliff, he is pretty direct. Unlike JFJ who can’t confirm or deny that he has a pulse.
