It’s beyond odd that when a trade rumor is circulating about your biggest star that the person denying the story is not your GM, but rather your President.
J.P. Ricciardi never met a microphone he didn’t like, and loves starting sentences with his favorite word, “I”..so to not hear him when an issue of this magnitude comes along is completely bizarre.
In case you missed it, a NJ newspaper reported just prior to Roy Halladay’s start today that Doc was unhappy in Toronto and wanted to be dealt. Whether true or not, this is big news for the Blue Jays. There is no reason to explain the importance of this story and the need for some sort of response.
However, it was Godfrey who came to answer questions and not his recently neutered GM:
“That’s all news to me,” Godfrey said of the Star-Ledger report. “If there was anything to that, I’d be the first to know.”
“We have not spoken to any other team about Roy, because Roy Halladay is to us what Derek Jeter is to the Yankees,” Godfrey said.”
Truth be told, there is nothing wrong with the Prez answering, nor with the answer provided. There is something wrong with the GM not being heard from at all.
As Richard Griffin keeps saying in his blog, the evidence continues to mount that J.P. is toast.
