I’m kind of blindsided by this one. Stempniak was a favorite around St. Louis, even though he hasn’t shown his 27 goal form again. He’s a hard worker if nothing else.

What kind of players are we getting back?

Thanks for reaching out Classic.

Carlo is the enigma. When healthy he shows flashes of brilliance. He has been the most watched prospect in Toronto for a long time. Every time he took a step forward it seemed he took 3 back by getting injured. For the first time (until just recently) he has become a healthy scratch. Ron Wilson has attacked him publicly for his conditioning (or lack thereof). There has been a ton said about this recently but Wilson has been steadfast in that Carlo’s injuries all stem from a general lack of attention to conditioning. Ron Wilson said it best “If he ever gets in shape he could be an awesome hockey player”.

Steen may leave a few a bit surprised. One of the few recent bright spots who were actually drafted in Toronto Alex was. He was a healthy scratch early in the season which caught everyone’s attention.

From the Toronto perspective this is clearly a trade about the coach. Wilson has seen these guys for a few months and has a pretty good idea of who he likes and who not so much…. Clearly he didn’t like either very much…

Surprised at Stempniak’s physique. 5-10? That isn’t a prototypical Brian Burke type of player.
