Who would have guessed that Mats Sundin would have a negative effect on the Vancouver Canucks? I mean the Canucks signed the savior, has he not yet walked on water or turned water into wine? Ray Ferraro’s quote yesterday had to sting. “Mats Sundin is playing like he hasn’t played in 9 months and then he took off to Whistler with his girlfriend over the all star break and never skated during the whole break.” Ouch. When was the last time you heard Sundin called out for lack of preparation?
Not even the biggest Sundin hater would have predicted “the Canucks going 1-5-2 with Sundin in the lineup. Sundin has three points in eight games, and is minus-five. He has also been in the penalty box for three game-winning goals against, and for the game-tying marker against Nashville.” One win in 8 games? What is he teaching his teammates? “Vancouver has now lost eight straight at home and seven overall to slide out of playoff contention” Does any of this sound familiar???
What happens if the Canucks fail to qualify for the playoffs? What is Sundin’s legacy? People in the media are ripping Curtis Joseph for playing out one more year as a back up goalie, calling it sad to watch. What would the same people say about Sundin, if in his last season he was nothing more then an anchor? Maybe he should have listened more to Borje Salming and his heart and less to his agent and his wallet! I find it intriguing by the way that the likes of Darren Dreger and Bill Watters refuse to criticize the Big Anchor. On the Watters show yesterday they ass kissing for Sundin was epic, barely un-listenable.
Here’s hoping he can turn this around soon, it would be a shame for him to go out like this(however Sundin has always performed at his best when called out in the media….anyone else feel an injury coming resulting in a Canuck winning streak?
