Maple Leafs Trade Rumour Dujour

Not sure how many saw this in today’s Globe and Mail…It certainly jibes with everything else out there, that right after Burke “threw Nik under the bus” the penguins called to make an offer…

“Did the firing of Pittsburgh Penguins coach Michel Therrien scuttle a possible trade between the Pens and Toronto Maple Leafs? Leafs general manager Brian Burke denied he has been talking to the Penguins about shipping out forward Nik Antropov, but there were whispers something may have been close last weekend. One possibility bandied about had Antropov swapped for Penguins defenceman Ryan Whitney. Another option was a first-round selection and young blueliner Alex Goligoski in exchange for Antropov. There also was belief that if the Penguins acquired Antropov, he may have been used as part of a package for a trade to the Atlanta Thrashers for scoring whiz Ilya Kovalchuk and Colby Armstrong”

Interesting fodder for sure.

Damien leads off the thou shall cheer parade for Sundin in today’s Star…Does anyone care what Damien thinks?

Once again, old Two Face rears his ugly head. The other day he answered in his mail bag on his blog piece about how he is neither a fan of the Leafs or a hater of the Leafs, he just reports what he sees and offers a completely unbiased (cough, cough) view of the teams performance.

Here is the blog, look at Thursday Feb. 12ths Mailbag Q&A –

“I guess the bottom line is that I don’t hate the Leafs. But I don’t love them, either. I’m neutral, but I have strong opinions on how the team is run and how it plays, and given their record over the decades, I think you’d agree with me that there’s been far more negative news than positive news. I have a job to do, one that I like a great deal and allows me to cover other hockey stories and other sports stories in addition to the Leafs. Hopefully that answers your question.”

Yet here he is the so called NON FAN, clamouring for all Leaf fans to all of a sudden throw their collective hands together and cheer loud and cheer hard for the former Leafs captain?!? I mean come on Cox, either admit you are a godamn fan or not but don’t ask the real fans to all of a sudden change their views on a situation simply because you, the supposed BIGGEST NON FAN THERE IS, wants us to??? Give me a friggin’ break. Honestly, Damien’s hypocrisy knows no end!!

I’ve gotta disagree with you Nealio.Cox gets on my nerves, but one needs not be a fan or not to have an opinion………personally I’ll be smashing Linginberries on the pavement of the ACC as I shout Sundin’s name into damnation, but that’s just how I roll 😉

Well, I suppose we can agree to disagree and move on!

I still think the guy says one thing and flip flops alot, and although I don’t have the exact reference available I am positive he has shunned Sundin before in former articles and now he says Sundin deserves a heros welcome. I don’t buy it. He said what he said today because he wanted to get a rile out of people, and not because he really believes Sundin deserves it…at least thats imo.

We were raised on captains who were very emotional towards the Leafs, ripping the C off the sweater, because he cared so damn much(Sittler)
Playing through major back pain and have 8 hours of treatment prior to playing with wreckless disregard for his long term health (Clarke)

Intervenus prior to playoff games due to pushing himself beyond his limits(Gilmour)

Sundin went against everything we were conditioned to expecting from the captain of our Leafs, he refused to sacrifice himself for the team, f’em

Well, lets just say I’m not a big fan of the Swede. If he accepted the trade last year all the other clowns would have followed, or at least a few. Giving us a solid foundation. Like Carter for one. Damn you Sundin, of with his head!

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
