Bosh Has (Probably Insignificant) News

Chris Bosh’s official website says the Raptors’ star will be making a big announcement on June 1st, with no details being released. Some might assume it has something to do with his contract situation, or with Bosh’s future with the team. Doug Smith of the Toronto Star says the announcement is probably not basketball related:

“Don’t get your knickers in a knot. I presume – and this is a presumption based on only a couple of conversations – that it’s got something to do entirely divorced from anything about the Raptors.

It can’t be a contract extension – they can’t even talk about that until July; I don’t think he’d all of a sudden have a change of heart about declaring any huge 2010 intentions.

But I will say this: It’ll drive traffic to his site and that’s what it’s all about.”

Smith is right – Bosh has caused somewhat of a stir, and I would imagine the news is fairly insignificant in the scheme of things.

Any guesses on what it could be? Anybody else hoping Bosh would just focus on basketball, and on improving his game, this summer?

    I think he should focus on getting stronger and work on his game all the time, but he’s got a serious internet ego.
    Raptors’ fans shouldn’t waist their time getting excited, unless of course his announcement from heaven is that of an extension.

    Extension=Marion (on the cheap-cheap)

    Probably another cheesy video of him and his brother singing a country song this time.

    Actually to sign an extension you dont have to wait until July. SJax signed mid-season extention this past year.

    John, he does have to wait to sign the extension, and it differs for every player…this from nba.com:

    Bosh signed his current contract on July 14, 2006. Under the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement, Toronto can re-sign Bosh for three more seasons after the three-year anniversary of that.

    So SJax must have signed his previous contract more than 3 years before signing that extension
