College of Sports Media Game of the Night:
Who would have thought the number one team in baseball would be the Los Angeles Dodgers. They started out on a torrid pace with Manny Ramirez in the line up. When Manny got his 50-game timeout, LA was expected to tumble. Contrary to popular belief they have kept on winning. Juan Pierre has stepped up in absence of the dread-headed slugger. Last season Pierre was thought to be another big-contract bust. This season in only 69 at-bats, he’s averaging .329, with 27 RBIs and 21 stolen bases. It’ll be interesting what the Dodgers do with Pierre when Ramirez returns on July 3rd. Tonight LA hosts the division-rival Colorado Rockies. The Dodgers took game one in dramaic fashion. Andre Either hit a walk-off two run homer in the 13th inning, giving LA a 4-2 win. Game two will feature a good match on the mound, Dodger Chad Billingsley (9-3) battles Jason Marquis (9-5).

Sadly Pierre’s tush will be planted to the bench for all butt(pun intended) a couple of games per week once Manny returns.

Someone pointed out yesterday that the Jays have the 9th best record in baseball, but the 4th best in their division. Gah! Kills me. The last 15 years would have been a lot different for this franchise if they played in the AL central.

Im all for getting rid of divisions and balancing the schedule. Top 4 teams get in, no restrictions as to who else is in your division.
