I’ve been waiting to hear Beeston talk about what the hell is going on with the Jays right now.

I’m not a big Doug Farraway fan, but I thought he was great on his show today. He really took Rogers to task for not finding the money to keep Halladay. He basically said that if Rogers won’t find the cash to attempt to resign Roy, they must not be aiming to win anytime soon – and if that’s true, sell the team to someone who does want to win. He was really calling them out. I thought it was pretty bold of him considering he works for Rogers.

If Farraway wants Rogers to sell the Jays maybe he can tell us who will buy it…………..the Jays are not exactly a hot commodity right now

Hm, you should check out the Beeston interview, TSM:

    Pretty interesting. Some nuggets:
    – ownership is not going to change
    – Beeston is going to sit down with Roy to discuss if he’s resignable or not.
    – Money will NOT be an issue in the resigning of Halladay.
    – Trading Halladay does not mean they’re planning on going through a full rebuild.

Here’s the impression I got. This whole mess is NOT a result of Rogers deciding it’s best to unload Roy or that they can’t afford Roy. It really seems that Roy has quietly given them the impression that he’s not likely to resign regardless of the money. I think now the Jays are scrambling and talking trade because he’s more valuable now then he would be in the offseason or next year.

The important things are that this is not a cost cutting move by Rogers, and that Rogers is not intending to strip the team down and do a full rebuild. This is good news – indicates that Rogers isn’t interested in turning the team into the Pittsburgh Pirates. It really seems like this whole mess has been a reaction to what Roy has said.
