TSM TAKE:

Crazy day! Cal Ripken is a the man, he should be an interesting guy to listen to especially with Blair co-hosting! Scott Simmon’s should have interesting takes on the weekend that was in Golf plus the one that will be. Burke has had a busy summer, and hell, he’s emailing me at 5:48am! What’s next??? Have the Jays traded Roy Halladay yet? I want to know what Shulman has to say, especially with Blair co-hosting! Brendan Taman talking CFL football. Over on 640 Brady talks to the longest serving CFL employee ever! No really, I think Obie coached the argos when I was 2 and I am 37 now!! With all due respect to our Toronto baseball beat guys, I am a HUGE Peter Gammons fan. Maybe cause i lived stateside for so long. I used to run out every Sunday morning before the internet to read the Boston globe to read Gammons’ weekly baseball roundup when I was in college. I watched ESPN sportscentre to hear his take on any issue baseball related. Until they started to charge for the insider I read him religiously. I am a big Gammons guy.

Seems like 640 has beefed up the non-hockey talk the past few months. They’ve gotten some good MLB and NBA guests in the past while.

When 640 puts their minds to doing non-hockey stories they definitely do seem to get some impressive guests (it’s too bad Gammons had to cancel tonight but it sounds like he might be on later this week)…………however over the past few weeks they have had way too many hockey players who didn’t have a lot to say (Kessel, Sharp, O’Brien, Wideman, Scuderi, Briere, etc)……………maybe if 640 didn’t insist on focusing so much on hockey they wouldn’t be complaining about how slow things are in the sports world these days……….it might be slow in the hockey world but there are plenty of other interesting stories to talk about

Yeah, I’m with you on that, Mike.

I’ve always found 640s choice to frequently interview B level NHL players to be odd. Unless you’re a megafan, it’s pretty boring I think.

Another thing I find weird is that with the exception of the Leaf talk, you almost can’t tell which city the station is based in. It’s NHL centric over being Toronto centric. Although it seems that maybe they’ve been adjusting that a little over the last few months maybe.

It should definitely be pointed out that PTS has its share of uninteresting guests too…………..and they also have their share of uninteresting hosts, at least when Faulds and Kelley are there………….the good news is that it looks like they might have come to their senses to some extent because Toth has not been a fill-in host so far this summer on PTS
