Nikolai Zherdev A Maple Leaf???

So, should Burke or shouldn’t Burke? Zherdev is a UFA. Should Burke take a shot at him? What do you think Leaf Nation?

Assuming Poni is moved or lost as a UFA at the end of the season, I’d be ok with Zherdev. I still wonder who will play center? At some point (doesn’t have to be this season) burke is going to need to find a #1 center. I don’t think we have one in waiting…current prospects might (a big might) be decent #2’s one day if we are lucky (Grabovsky, Tlusty, Bozak)…

YES! we need some scoring touch. Though I agree with LT…we need some skill and size up the middle – without it, these scoring wingers won’t be very effective.

I would say absolutely yes to signing him. This is a really rare opportunity…a 24 year old who, while having some work ethic questions, is obviously an excellent talent and entering his prime years. While I agree that he doesn’t fit the “Brian Burke type player” description we hear so much about, the guy despite the issues scored 55+ points and is extremely skilled. This is what the leafs need, and taking this gamble is not a huge one in my mind. If you strike gold with this move, it would be a huge addition for cash only…if it doesn’t work out you can walk away in a year or two anyway. I am really hoping Burke acts on this…in my mind there is no reason not to do it.

Apparently Burke has said he has no interest in Zherdev
