USA Today’a Kevin Allen is reporting that he talked to Brian Burke and that Burke said he has no interest in Zherdev. Too bad.

I’m really dissappointed to hear that. Of all the gambles that Burke has been making (which I totally approve of him doing), this might have been the most likely to succeed (over the Bozak’s, Monster’s and Hanson’s of the world). A young proven 60ish point scorer with lots of upside seems sad to pass on if you don’t have to give up any assets. Plus he likely would have had a career year as a first line player on the Leafs. Oh well.

– co-host at 5:05 is James Deacon
– Paul Beeston
– Don Banks of Sports Illustrated on the NFL
– Mike Gillis, GM of the Vancouver Canucks
– sports business analyst Darren Rovell
– Jack Armstrong on basketball

I am convinced there is no sports station in North America who interviews their own people more than 590 does. It has its pros and cons, but I will call it and say it’s mostly redundant.

What possible reason if Armstrong just did a 3 hour show, and did a guest spot a day ago on the Bullpen, is there to have him on McCown’s show? It isn’t even NBA season, so there’s literally no excuse.

I’m at a loss to figure how shows justify that. It’s just killing segments they don’t otherwise have a plan for when they interview Berger, Wilner, or Armstrong over and over and over again.

Say what you will about 640, and they’re far from perfect as I’ve mentioned with the boring hockey guests, but they don’t force-feed McKenzie, Dreger, or Morrison on us for the three months when nothing is going on.

Am I wrong? Or does anyone else notice the redundancy?

Zherdev is clearly not a prototypical Burke type.but niether is Grabovski, and as mentioned, he would be a solid asset without having to lose a player in return. This “rebuild” is starting to confuse me,players with the scoring touch of a Zherdev don’t grow on trees, and he’s young

It is not only 590 that interviews its own people…………in fact 640 is interviewing Dennis Beyak right now, and they do it with others too (Jim Ralph, etc)…………and WGR 550 interviews their reporter Paul Hamilton quite often as well………….I agree that these type of interviews are often unnecessary and are quite often filler………it would be better if they had a more interesting guest instead…………..but I would rather hear someone like Armstrong than guys like Tony Granato, Mike Van Ryn, Scott Howson, or Brendan Bell

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
