College of Sports Media Game of the Night:
Who would have thought the Colorado Rockies would show up in the Game of the Night on back-to-back posts, but the Rockies are playing some pretty crucial games that could be the difference between wild card entrees, NL West Champions or so close yet so far. Last night the Rockies won 6-4 in dramatic fashion over the San Francisco Giants with a walk-off grand slam (ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!!??) by Ryan Spilborghs in the 14th inning. The first ever walk off slam in Colorado history. With the win the Rox took three of four from the Giants and opened up a four game cushion over their division rival atop the wild card race.
Tonight Colorado plays the first of three hosting their division leading Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers lead over the Rockies has dwindled to a paltry three games and for anyone who struggles with math a Rockies series sweep means a tie for the NL West. Colorado has been on fire while the Dodgers have simply been average. In their last ten, LA is 5-5. Tonight two pitchers with 8-7 records take the mound. Clayton Kershaw goes for the Dodgers and Jason Hammels gets the call for the Rockies.
If you didn’t think this stretch of the schedule is important for Colorado just look at their next opponents, the San Francisco Giants…again. Wow!
