College of Sports Media Game of the Night:
There are two huge NL West battles involving the two teams atop the wild card standings. The Colorado Rockies lead the race to final play off spot by four and a half games over the San Francisco Giants. Colorado opens up the first of three in San Diego tonight to take on the Padres. Although the Padres are well out of a postseason position you can be sure they’d like nothing more then to spoil some games for their opponents. San Diego is coming off a three game set where they took two of three from the Giants and want to maintain they’re win streak against the Rockies. Edward Mujica (3-4) is on the mound for SD while Colorado counters with Jorge De La Rosa (14-9).
Things don’t get much easier for the Giants as they head from San Diego into LA were they start a three game series against the division leading Dodgers. At least for San Francisco they have one of their aces on the mound tonight as Matt Cain (13-4). LA hands the ball to Hiroki Kurado (5-6). The Rox will have their eyes on this series and may in fact be hoping for a Giants sweep. Though Colorado leads San Francisco in the wild card, they only trail LA by two games for the division lead and would rather go into the play offs as division winners rather then the wild card.
