TSM Game of the Night

College of Sports Media Game of the Night:

The Monday night-er features an AFC West Battle as the San Diego Chargers (2-2) host the undefeated Denver Broncos (5-0). The thought at the beginning of the season was that the Chargers would easily win this division with the Broncos bringing up the rear. Denver had brought in a first-time head coach, traded its start quarterback, and their number one receiver was demanding a trade and acting like a diva in practice. This were not looking good. Then in week one the Broncos beat the Cincinnati Bengals in a last second tip drill play and they’ve just kept on winning. The Chargers on the other hand made very little changes in the off season. When you have arguably one of the best young quarterbacks in the league, a balanced offence and a punishing defence you’re thinking past division titles to potential Super Bowl appearances. In week one the Chargers they needed to put together a comeback win to squeak past the Oakland Raiders and things haven’t got much easier. They lost key components to their defensive and offensive lines to injuries, their struggling to pressure teams and their running game has been less then stellar. The only thing going for them right now is the play of their QB, Phillip Rivers. Rivers is averaging 311.2 yards per game, third best in the league, and has already thrown 6 touchdowns. If San Diego wants to keep those Super Bowl dreams alive they’ll need a win tonight to keep pace with the surging Broncos.
