Does A Captain For Maple Leafs Matter?

Curious Toronto Maple Leaf fans, as I read another article handicapping the candidates for captaincy of the Toronto Maples in the Toronto Star, are you as hung up on this as our friends in the press? Don’t get me wrong, I do think they need one, but I am not sure the right guy is on the roster right now and I am not the least bit bothered that they don’t have one right now and really haven’t given much thought to it since Burke said one wasn’t immanent. It’s one of those things where I would rather they get it right then just give it away…

Critical at this point? No. But I do believe that it’s an important piece of the puzzle and appropriate to get someone in with the right attributes sooner than later. That player is not on the roster right now. Though I have to say that I do believe White comes the closest. He seems to have the character that you like to see in a captain – he just doesn’t do enough yet to lead the team to victories (points on the scoreboard). When I think of prototypical Leafs captains; I thnk of Sittler, Gilmour and Clark.

This is a story that I wish would go away. If there were qualified candidates, I’d welcome the debate.

It doesnt matter who the Captain is (White is the guy) as Wilson will make the position redundant.

Wilson is a bully and jerk that believes in punishing players i.e. sitting them out a game or so rather than take the players gaff to the practice and work on it. All these sitting the kids down, sending them down cannot be good for their confidence…a little pat on the back would work wonders.

One final thought…what is WALIN doing on the roster…trade him or dump him as he is flat out NOT good enough for the NHL let alone the Leafs. Wilson open up your eyes and realize that STALBERG is a super star in the waiting put him on the top two lines not the first and FOURTH which makes no sense.

Happy New Year All…..Sharky…

Give it to Kaberle. He’s been here forever, he works hard, he’s having a great season and maybe we get a hometown discount when it comes time to resign him. White gets an A for the time being.

I don’t think it really matters but…I think if they can hang on to Ian White, he might be the best choice. I don’t think the best player is always the best choice.

Don’t think it’s a huge problem at all. While I like White – a lot – I think at this point you’ve got to give the C to Kaberle if anyone.

He’s been around the longest at this point, he’s been pretty stellar this year, and he’s doing things I’ve never seen him do before – like jump in to defend someone who’s getting hit.

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
