College of Sports Media Game of the Night:
Vancouver Canuck Alex Burrows has been in the news for all different types of reasons lately. Early in the week Burrows was named the NHL’s first Star of the Week. He had back-to-back hat tricks finishing the week with seven goals. On Monday he notched a couple more then proceeded to call out referee Stephane Auger. Today he was fined for his comments and tonight, he and his teammates are in Minnesota to take on the Wild. These two teams have played three times already this season and the Canucks have owned their Northwest division rivals, winning all three contests. Vancouver has been rolling as of late. In their last ten games they’re 7-2-1 and have been getting phenomenal play of their number one line of Burrows and the Sedins Twins. Both Burrows and Daniel Sedin have 37 points, while Henrik Sedin leads the league in points. Henrik has 64 points and has notched a point in every single game since December 20. Minnesota has been doing well as well. Over their last ten they’re 6-4 and have won three straight. On Saturday night the Wild spotted the Chicago Blackhawks a 5-1 lead only to comeback a steal a 6-5 shoot out win. Then on Monday night they dumped the defending Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3. Guillaume Latendresse has been on a tear since arriving in a trade from Montreal. As a Wild he’s scored 10 goals to go along with five assists.
Referee Auger is in action as well tonight. He’s in Alberta tonight, officiating the game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Calgary Flames.
