College of Sports Media Game of the Night:
It’s day seven and six medals are up for grabs in Vancouver at the 2010 Winter Games. Canada’s best chances for a podium finish will be in the women’s 1000m long track speed skating event. Kristina Groves pulled off a bronze performance in the 500 m and today she’ll be one of four Canucks taking part. Christine Nesbitt, Brittany Schussler and Shannon Rempel could all be in the hunt for the gold medal prize. Figure skater Patrick Chan is sitting in seventh place following the short program on Tuesday night. He’ll need to be near perfect to crack the top three in tonight’s long program. Two biathlon events are on tap for this afternoon – the men’s 20 km and the women’s 15 km. On the slopes in Whistler the women are back at it in the super-combined. American Lindsey Vonn was golden yesterday and looks for a similar result today. Sticking with the mountains, Cypress Mountain will be showcased again this afternoon. American Shaun White was absolutely phenomenal yesterday for the men. Today the ladies get their shot at the half pipe. For Canadian men’s hockey team there are no medals up for grabs today – just a chance to exercise some demons from Olympics past. Back in 2006 in Turin Italy, Canada was upset by the Swiss 2-0. Tonight they get their first Olympic chance at a little revenge.
