College of Sports Media Game of the Night:
Plenty of action on the hard court today. If you’re all over the March Madness the second half of the sweet sixteen goes tonight. Two games are out of the Midwest. The first game features the six seed Tennessee going up against two seed Ohio State. The winner goes on to the Elite Eight and face either Northern Iowa or Michigan State. Northern Iowa is coming off the big upset win over the one seeded Kansas in the first weekend of the tourney. Michigan State is hoping to continue it’s Madness success. Last year they played North Carolina in the finals. The South will be the site of the other two games. The early game features another David team as it’s the ten seed St Mary’s taking on the three seed Baylor. St Mary’s took down the two seed Villanova last weekend and would like nothing more then to add Baylor to its mantle. The finals game might be the best as the one seed Duke takes on the four seed Purdue. Coach K would like nothing more then yet another return to the final eight for this Blue Devils.
If you’re more into the Association, it continues to be a tight battle for the four remaining playoff spots in the East. All the teams currently in those spots are in action. In Milwaukee the fifth place Bucks host the sixth place Miami Heat. The Bucks have a two game lead on the Heat and have won 15 of their last 17 games. John Salmons was traded to Milwaukee at the trade deadline and he’s averaged 20.5 points per game since joining the team. They’re name isn’t the only hot thing going in Miami. The Heat have won nine of their last 12 and are coming off an enormous 103-74 win over the Chicago Bulls on Thursday night. In Charlotte the seventh place Bobcats welcome the Washington Wizards. Charlotte is a half game behind Miami and are looking to run their winning streak to three. Finally the eighth place Toronto Raptors are set to battle the Denver Nuggets at the ACC. The Raptors are a game and half behind Charlotte and the coldest of the four teams. On Wednesday night the Raptors were played in a 103-87 loss to the Utah Jazz and have lost seven of their last ten (back-to-back losses at home..they’ve haven’t dropped three in row at home all season). It’ll be tough for the Raps to snap their losing ways – the Nuggets have beaten them five straight times.
