About a week or so after the Phaneuf and Giggy deals, TSM asked how many games each of us thought the Leafs would win this season. At the time there were some 20 games to go and someone answered that they expected the Leafs to win 11 to 15 games. I openly mocked that person here, and thought to myself that they would be hard-pressed to win 5.
I thought aloud about where the talent would come from because I felt that the Leafs were fielding a farm club at best.
I don’t know what to think anymore, it seems that youth and speed are really precious in this league right now. Who is this kid Braydon Irwin? Does it matter? I don’t know what my point is here, none of these kids are franchise players, but they’re winning.
Are youth and speed really that important in today’s NHL? Because it isn’t skill, a standout defense or a brick wall of goaltending that are getting this done.
I totally agree with you. I thought this team was going to have a really hard time scoring a goal per game. To me, it reinforces the fact there had to be a pretty bad stench in that locker-room.
Maybe that’s what it is, culture.
Detroit & NJ have it, but doesn’t it usually flow from the veterans that anchor the club. This revolution is being led by kids, and therefore probably fragile.
