College of Sports Media Game of the Night:
Tom Petty sang about it and right now the Toronto Raptors are living it – Free Falling. The Raptors have lost three straight and are desperately hanging on to a half game lead over the ninth place Chicago Bulls. Last night in Miami the Raptors had a 17 point lead in the third quarter only to lose the game 97-94. They’re back at it tonight, taking on the seventh place Charlotte Bobcats. Last Monday these two teams were tied for seventh place in the East. Going into tonight’s game, Charlotte has won three straight and have opened up a three game lead on Toronto. The Bobcats come into this one well rested as well. The last time they played was on Friday night when they squashed the Washington Wizards 107-96. Gerald Wallace led the team in scoring that night with 23. For Toronto they’re playing for the third time in four nights. On Friday, they lost a heart-breaker at home to the Denver Nuggets. With the final seconds ticking off the clock Nugget forward Carmelo Anthony hit the game winner and Denver eked out the 97-96 victory. The last time these two teams met in Charlotte, the Bobcats’ defence stymied the Raptors en route to a 116-81 win. With the season winding down the Raps can’t afford a similar effort tonight.
