College of Sports Media Game of the Night:
The Vancouver Canucks were all over the LA Kings in the first period of game three on Monday night. They out shot the Kings 11-7 and dictated the play. Unfortunately they gave up another power play goal and went into the second with a 1-1 tie. Then the wheels fell off. The Kings scored three straight goals, goalie Roberto Luongo was pulled and LA held on for a 5-3 win. Following the game Captain Canuck, Luongo, ripped his team for not blocking shots and clearing pucks away. I’m suggesting the team stay out of the penalty box. Right now the Vancouver penalty kill is atrocious. They’ve given up seven power play goals on only 12 short-handed situations – yuk! Vancouver has no problems scoring – they were second best in the league and forward Henrik Sedin won the Art Ross trophy with a 112 points. The defence needs to step up and the goalie needs to start making some saves… that’s right Luongo – every time you point a finger there are three pointing back at you. LA on the other hand has the Canucks on the ropes (2-1 series lead) and looking for the knock out punch. Defenceman Drew Doughty and Jack Johnson are the catalysts for the team. The D-namic duo lead the team with 5 points a piece and together they form one of the most dangerous power play blue line duo in the league. Not to mention both play some pretty mean and tough defence. Combine that with solid goaltending (Jonathan Quick – .918 save % and 2.45 GAA) , some speed up front and this Kings team is poised to make this the first of many postseason appearances.
