College of Sports Media Game of the Night:
Only one game on the ice tonight and it’s a great one. The Detroit Red Wings need to do something they haven’t done since 1964 – win game seven of a series on the road (they also lost game seven of the Stanley Cup finals last season – which I’m sure they haven’t forgotten). In their way are the Phoenix Coyotes. The Coyotes are looking to end a streak of their own as well. This team hasn’t won a playoff series since 1987, when they were the Winnipeg Jets. Home ice hasn’t been much of an advantage in this one. The first four games featured splits in each other buildings and the last two games have been won by the visiting team. Phoenix won their last game 5-2 in Detroit and can thank their power play unit for the offensive surge. Of the five goals scored, three were notched with an extra man on the ice. (Mental note for the Red Wings – hey guys you may want to try to stay out of the penalty box). It’s really not all that surprising that these two teams would end up going to a game seven. During the regular season they each won two games in their four head-to-heads. Were this one will get decided is between the pipes (could that be any more of an obvious statement?). Will Ilya Bryzgalov continue to backstop the Desert Dogs even further past expectations or will Jimmy Howard prove the tail end of the season was no joke and he’s the missing cog in the Motor City?
