College of Sports Media Game of the Night:
Round one in the NHL playoffs end tonight as the Washington Capitals and Montreal Canadiens fight for the right to continue playing in the postseason. The Capitals had a commanding 3-1 series lead and looked to have things locked up. Two games later and Washington may be a bad goal away from being bounced from the extended season. In game six Montreal goaltender Jaroslav Halak was the difference maker. Halak faced 54 shots and only one got by the Slovakian tender. The Habs will need a similar effort from their man between the pipes for them to move on. The big question for the Caps is how do you solve a problem like Halak? Perhaps Washington needs to steal some ideas from the Detroit Red Wings. Detroit’s top stars, Nicklas Lidstrom and Pavel Datsyuk set the pace (4 goals and an assist) for their team en route to a 6-1 game seven win. If that’s the case, Alexander Ovechkin and Mike Green will have to continue to fire the puck on net (14 combined in game six) and hope they can find the kink in Halak’s armour.
