College of Sports Media Game of the Night:
In the spirit of Cinco de Mayo we’re going to Phoenix where the Los Suns will be hosting game two of their series with the San Antonio Spurs. Unfortunately the Suns are not wearing the new uniform in celebration of the Spanish holiday – they’re doing so to protest a new Arizona law designed to identify, prosecute and deport illegal immigrants. Phoenix took game one of the series with a 111-102 win. In the battle of the guards, two time NBA MVP Steve Nash dominated second-year star George Hill. Nash was on fire scoring 33 points to go along with 10 assists. Hill struggled scoring only 9 points in just under 33 minutes of playing time. Both teams rely on three key players that need to play well for their team to contend. Along with Nash, Amare Stoudemire and Jason Richardson had a great game one. Stoudemire had 23 points and 13 boards, while J-Rich had 27 points. It’s no surprise who the big three are in San Antonio. Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili have been together for years and have won three championships together. In game one Duncan had an okay night with 20 points and Ginobili was better with 27. Parker came of the bench and contributed with 26. Where this series will be one is by the play of the contributors. Not one player really stood out in the first game, but by the time it’s all said and done expect either a DeJuan Blair or a Channing Frye to shine.
