Today’s game of the day is between two teams who are in the tightest races of any of the divisions in Major League Baseball.
The host Atlanta Braves have lost three straight after getting swept in Chicago by the White Sox, giving them just a half game edge over the second place New York Mets in the NL East. But they have the best home record in the Majors at 24-7.
The Tigers are just a half game back of the Minnesota Twins in the AL Central and find themselves relying on 22-year-old rookie pitcher Andy Oliver, who is making his Major League debut tonight.
The Braves will counter with youngster Kris Medlen. In his eight starts since replacing injured pitcher Jarr Jurrjens, Medlen has a 3.67 ERA with a perfect 3-0 record.
With a lot on the line for both teams, it’ll be quite interesting to see how these two youngsters fair on the mound under the pressure.
First pitch is at 7:35 pm EST.
