Toronto Sports Media Game of the Night

Cap off an afternoon spent watching the Blue Jays with an evening watching Premier League Football right here in TO.

Tickets to see Toronto FC host the Bolton Wanderers at 7:30 p.m. in an international friendly Carlsberg Cup game are still available and the game will be broadcast online at torontofc.ca

There will be plenty of new faces on the field as Reds fans will get their first chance to watch striker Mista in this match, with Toronto FC coach Preki saying he’ll play at least 45 minutes.

In addition, four trialists including Bas Ent from the Dayton Dutch Lions FC of the Premier Developmental League and three Canadian Soccer League players, defender Mirko Medic (Serbian White Eagles), midfielder Drazen Vukovic and forward Miodrag Andjelkovic (both Brantford Galaxy) have been cleared to step in as substitutes.

American Stuart Holden is chomping at the bit to play tonight in his first game following limited World Cup action and recuperating from a fractured tibia. The former Houston Dynamo said he loves the atmosphere at Rogers Centre and wants to play but understands if he’s left out as he’s only practiced once with the team since coming back.

I think you meant BMO field. I know something was seriously wrong when you put “loves the atmosphere”
and Rogers Centre in the same breath. lol

But speaking of RC and soccer, it was really funny listening to the Manchester Utd vs Celtic game on Setanta with the Man U british commentators and they were IN LOVE with the Rogers Centre, complementing everything about it (except the new “real grass” put in for the game) and I’m sure these guys have seen there fair share of stadiums. It’s funny the most of the sports fans here (including myself) thinks it’s a horrible stadium for sports and outdated. But it still has the sizzle for outsiders.

This in season friendlies are kind of interesting, the only time I remember another sport doing something similar would be when the Russian teams like the Red Army would come and play games during the season.

If you are going to sign up these friendlies I think your regular starters should play at least half an hour, if not what’s the point. I guess the TFC guys did pretty well as Bolton played a lot of their A-list guys for the entire game. I know when it went to penalty kicks TFC had no chance as all there credible potential goal scorers were not in the lineup or taken out in the first half. Maybe Carlsberg Cup is a gift for coming over haha
