Game of the Night

Today were going to switch it up a bit for the Game of the Night, instead of covering the Yankees versus the Rays for the umpteenth time I’ll cover all the MLB games that might interest you tonight.

Seattle Mariners (57-93) vs Toronto Blue Jays (76-74) 7:07 ET on Rogers Sportsnet

Reason to watch: The Jays are sending out Kyle Drabek (0-1, 4.50 ERA) for his second start of the season. Drabek allowed three runs in six innings, striking out five in a 3-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. Also, Jays slugger Jose Bautista (.264/49/114) looks to become the first player since Alex Rodriguez in 2007 to hit 50 home runs in a season. Bautista is batting .208 in the month of September.

Tampa Bay Rays (89-61) vs New York Yankees (92-59) 7:05 ET on ESPN

Reason to watch: The Yankees have taken the first two games of this four game series. Curtis Granderson has been on fire against Rays pitching with two home runs and six RBIs in the two games. The Rays have 25 year old Wade Davis (12-9, 4.19 ERA) on the mound, Davis is 7-0 with a 3.62 ERA in his last 11 outings. The Lake Wales, FL native has a 42:16 K:BB ratio during that span. Yankees are going with A.J. Burnett (10-13, 5.08 ERA) the Yanks only starter (with over 10 starts) with a losing record. Burnett has really struggled after the All Star break, he’s 3-6 with 5.61 ERA, allowing 42 earned runs in 67.1 innings. Rays All Star Evan Longoria is really striking it against Burnett this season, he’s 12 for 31 (.387) with one homer.

Atlanta Braves (86-66) vs Philadelphia Phillies (91-61) 7:05 ET

Reason to watch: A great pitching duo in Philly tonight, when Tommy Hunter faces Roy Oswalt. The Phillies are going for the sweep tonight and extend their five game lead in the NL East, before heading to Atlanta for the season finale. Oswalt (13-13, 2.90 ERA) has been down right filthy since coming over from Houston in a mid-season trade. The Phillies have won seven of his eight starts, with Oswalt going 7-1 with a 1.94 ERA in that span. Hunter (10-11, 3.62 ERA) makes his final start of his 2010 season, Hunter has been a much better second half of 2010 and has been a real victim of a lack of run support.

San Diego Padres (84-66) vs Los Angeles Dodgers (73-78) 10:10 ET on ESPN

Reason to watch: The NL West has the tightest race of any division right now. If both the Padres and the San Francisco Giants (85-66) win tonight (Giants play the poor Chicago Cubbies) it should set up for an epic three game series to finish up the season. While the Padres have been struggling in September the Giants have been one of the best pitching staffs in the league. During September the Giants staff is 12-6 with 1.57 ERA holding teams to a .171 average.
