Game of the Night

Green Bay Packers (2-0) vs Chicago Bears (2-0) @ Soldier Field on TSN

Reason to watch: Other then the fact this is the oldest rivalry in the NFL, having both teams undefeated in tonight’s game is going to enlighten us on which of these NFC North squads are for real. The Packers are hardly a surprise at 2-0 with many prognosticators having the Pack in the NFC Championship or Super Bowl. The Bears on the other hand had the a lame-duck coach in the final year of his contract, a new offensive coordinator known for his high-octane offensive and brash personality, along with several high priced free agents.

So far so good in Chi-town with a road win in Dallas week two and home win versus the Lions, the Bears offense might feel confident to go face to face with the high scoring Pack. Bears QB Jay Cutler has been on point this year completing 68.8% of his passes. Not bad for a wide receiving unit that lacks a who’s who but has an Aromashodu. RB Matt Forte has been brilliant this season while he’s only rushed for 79 yards on 27 attempts, the third year back has 12 receptions for 188 yards with 3 TDs. Forte is avg. 15.7 yards per catch with one touchdown run of 89 yards. He’s a fun one to watch and really makes up for Chicago’s lack off a top wide receiver.

One of the Bears biggest concerns is their offensive line, the group will be without LT Chris Williams again tonight and will start six year vet Frank Omiyale in his place. The Bears line did a good job against Dallas allowing only one sack to a tough D, but the week before versus Detroit allowed Cutler to get sacked four times.

Looking to capitalize on Williams absence is Packers LB Clay Matthews, Matthews tore a part a Bills o-line sacking Trent Edwards three times effectively ending his tenure in Buffalo. Matthews had 10 sacks in his rookie year in 2009, he already has 6 on the year and on-pace to break the single season record for sacks in a season. Not bad for a former walk-on saftey at USC. The Packers defense is the best it’s been in a long time and a player to watch out for tonight for DT B.J. Raji, he was hurt for a better part of his rookie year and is finally healthy and ready to really contribute.

Green Bay’s offense since the pre-season has looked amazing. QB Aaron Rodgers is one of the best in the game and has a great ability to scramble to keep a play a live as well as throw on the run. TE Jermichael Finley has added another dimension to the offense and gives Rodgers a big body to throw to in the middle of the field. Finley is super talented he possess the rare combination of speed and strength (too fast and quick for linebackers too big and strong for cornerbacks and safeties). He also has great hands, which helps when your job is to catch the football. Should be a fun one tonight in Chi-town.
