Changes At Sportsnet

Quick hit this am, multiple sources are telling TSM this morning that on air changes are afoot at Sportsnet. We’re told that the contracts of Jim Lang and Jason ‎Portuondo are not going to be carried forward.

These appear to be the only air changes that ex-fan guy Nelson Millman and his partner in crime David Akande are making at the moment.

It says here that one Don Kollins would be wise to grab Mr. Lang PDQ as I think he’s a terrific personality who would be perfect for Kollins’s new look fan. If I were looking for someone to share duties with Eric Smith and Jeff Blair, I’d look long and hard at Lang.

More details later.

Sorry to see Lang go as he was great at covering CFL – I guess Lefko is the primary on that now. Good riddance Portuondo. I couldn’t stand him and his absence couldn’t happen soon enough.

and Portuondo says” oh, that’s not good”

Is Blair confirmed to be doing a show? Or is he just filling in for Smith when he’s away?

Either way, I agree, Lang would be good at The Fan. Maybe even paired with Krystal, being the ‘sports guy’ instead of Dunleavy. Paired with Smith would be good too.

I hate to speak badly of someone who’s just lost their job, but Portuondo was terrible in my opinion.

Can’t believe Rogers is letting another football guy go?I know they do not have the CFL TV rights but they do cover the NFL.
As much as i like E.Smith i am not a big fan of the rotating host. But having said that if you can get Langer as a partner for E and then the host when E is away i am all for it!

The Fan should definitely look at Lang. He’s got extensive radio experience dating back to his morning days at 640. Definitely a guy they could use.

I just wrote a thank you to Jim Lang on his website and predicting he would land on his feet elsewhere very soon where his talents would be appreciated. Hard to believe Sportsnet did not renew him, and yes, I would love to have the FAN scoop him up, and preferably not with Krystal, who I can’t listen to, but with E.Smith I can see that working out quite well.

Portuondo was so bad that I could not even tune into him for one second. I will immediately tune away from him when he is on, so this means I can watch more of Sportsnet now. How he held onto his job this long is a complete mystery to me, but the less said the better at this point, I am just glad he won’t be on anymore.

Jason Portuondo in my opinion was great!
He was a fresh new face for next generation.
I guess we are back to the old boring guys.

    Good Luck Jason…
I sure you will land on your feet
