Great interview – As others have written, this has quickly become my “go to” read several times a day. I hope Gord didn’t put himself in an hot water for his review of the Andrew Krapster Show. But once you’ve been fired once, the second time is much easier. Any chance we could hear from Don Landry and Brian Angus?

That was excellent, TSM. Really fascinating to hear Gord’s thoughts on the changes at The Fan. I was impressed that Gord was open enough to admit the new show wasn’t his cup of tea – and also that he’s still sore about the whole thing and may not be objective.

I think Gord has some legitimate points. First of all, in light of the current Fan lineup, they absolutely should have reassigned him instead of letting him go. Pair him with Jeff Blair from 9 to 12 or have him replace Shannon on PTS. Or have him do every night at 6, instead of just before Leaf games. Or everyday from 3 – 4 and move McCown back to his old time slot. It’s weird to have him on only a couple of hours a week in light of some of the content on The Fan these days.

Also – I think Gord was BANG on about 640. The Fan has been in different levels of disarray for months. 640 picked the absolute worst time to wind down their sports coverage. If they were ever going to take a run at The Fan, this was the time. But I guess they’d rather take a run at 1010. I bet we’ll see 640 drop sports talk in the next while, and 1050 will become some kind of ESPN/TSN radio thing.

I only caught Part 1 so far, which was really interesting from a historical perspective. Judging from the comments and Gord’s frankness, I can’t wait to tune into Part 2.

continued excellent work by TSM. Gordsy clearly doesn’t need much prompting to talk and you did a nice job of staying out of the way while asking questions likely to generate interesting answers.

i wondered whether he might have told you that FAN stuff was out of bounds so i was happy to hear that segment in pt.2. my opinion is that Gord was not a good fit to carry a whole show by himself on a wide range of sports topics, but that he could always bring good energy for hockey. i’m sure he’ll thrive in the new show, and could easily host or co-host an evening or weekend Leafs recap show. in fact i would probably look forward to a 2 hour “Leafs in review” show hosted by him and/or Berger.

Just finished listening to Part 2. I decided that even with the great roundtable cast i.e. Arthur and Grange, Shannon’s presence is enough to drive me away. Sad actually, but that’s just the way it is.

It is obvious after hearing Gord that Kollins as a PD is so completely out of his element. Kudos to Gord for being as candid as he was, and TSM, you sure brought out the best in him to open up like that.

Btw, I have firmly moved into the anti-Blair camp, as he just can’t run a show on his own. I much prefer E.Smith in the chair.

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
