World Series Game 2
Texas Rangers VS San Francisco Giants @ AT&T Park on Sportsnet, 7:57 PM ET
Giants Lead 1-0
Texas: LP C.J. Wilson (1-1, 3.93 ERA in 2010 postseason)
San Francisco: RP Matt Cain (1-0, 0.00 ERA in 2010 postseason)
Reason to Watch: While Rangers Bengie Molina benefitted from catching Tim Lincecum for three seasons, going 2 for 4 with an RBI and 2 runs, The Giants benefitted knowing how Molina calls a game behind the plate and lit up Cliff Lee for 8 runs. The Giants even got Lee to throw his second walk off the postseason in last nights 11-7 San Fran win.
If the Giants had their ace on the mound last night, they have their workhorse on the mound tonight. Matt Cain is having an excellent postseason so far, not allowing one run in 13.2 innings, in Cain’s last start in Game 3 of the NLCS against the Phillies, went 7 innings giving up two hits, while striking out five and walking three on 119 pitches, in a 3-0 Giants win. In his six year career, The 26 year old has thrown over 200 innings four times and threw 190 in his first full season. Don’t be surprised if you hear Fox announcer Joe Buck refer to Cain has “country” strong a couple times thru out the telecast.
The 29 year old C.J. Wilson enjoyed a great first season as a starter collecting 15 wins. Wilson has had two strong performances in this postseason, but was lit up by the Yankees in Game 5 of the ALCS. While Yankee Stadium is a tough place for any opposing pitcher, The Yankees jumped to an earlier 5-0 lead, while Wilson allowed two home runs, walked 4 on 6 hits. I’m pretty sure Wilson will breathe a sigh of relieve when the No.9 batter is the pitcher and not Curtis Granderson or Brett Gardner.
Giants second baseman Freddy Sanchez was 4 of 5 last night with 3 RBIs and 2 runs. The 32 year old Sanchez made his first postseason appearance after spending 5 1/2 years with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Sanchez hasn’t disappointed so far hitting .326 with 4 RBI’s and stellar defense.
[I forgot to mention that The National Post’s Bruce Arthur is on Around the Horn on TSN2 @ 5:00 PM. Nice to see a little Canadian content at the “World Leader”]
