Dear Commissioner Bettman

Today you will see unprecedented hockey interest as free agency kicks off on a holiday in Canada and on the eve of a holiday weekend in the USA. More people will watch their tv’s, listen to their radios and internet websites will buckle under huge audiences clamoring for NHL rumours and news.

This is why you should move the trade deadline to either a holiday or a weekend. Make it an event like today is. The audience is there, for once embrace it.

Happy Canada day, Happy 4th of July

Happy NHL Free Agency Day

I think the photo fo today should be a Stretch Armstrong. There is going to be a lot of stretching for content today.

I got breaking news for you TSM. Bob Mackowycz is joining TSN radio as a host & exec producer. He worked during the early days of OTR and earlier days of the Fan (mostly behind the window but some over night on air work) Most recently worked for CBC radio. Sounds like a strong pickup.

Oh man. I stay away from sports tv and radio on July 1st and trade deadline day. It’s just too much. I think the competition between TSN and Sportsnet makes each network become more and more sensationalistic and over dramatic each year. Always reminds me of American cable news networks trying to over-analyze.

Having said that, if that floats your boat – enjoy. Probably a fun day.

Jeff Marek just tweeted that he’s leaving CBC. Nice scoop, TSM.

Will he replace Krystal? Or maybe replace Dan Patrick? I’m not a huge fan of his, but its’ probably a good hire either way, as most seem to like him.

Understand the concept TSM, but this changing would have to be predicated by Bettman actually caring about the fans. His only concern is playing the Bob Barker shell game keeping different owners happy. Canadian Hockey fans he does not care about, he views the Canadian hockey fans as a guaranteed customer to whom he doesn’t need to do anything to appease.
Unless American fans wants to see this change or owners, this will never occur.

Wow CBC is losing a some talent, First Macko and now Merek, it’s like a garage sale, who wants a Friedman!

I stand corrected on the stretching for content for TV/radio. Free agent day has a lot less stretching for content than compared to the final day for trades.

I’m sure it won’t happen, but I would love to see Friedman host a radio show.

He actually reminds me of McCown in some ways. He’s not as funny or acerbic, but I think he’s as smart. Has an interesting take on stuff.

Outside of Jim Hughson and Friedman there isn’t anyone at CBC worth hiring (and that included Marek before he left).

Bob Mackowycz is leaving R2 Morning for TSN? What a sellout! He talks about music integrity and then he leaves his DJ job to be a sports show prodoucer?? Prob for a fat contract.

@Bobwhat Did you even listen to Bob’s show during his last couple weeks? He definitely had mixed emotions about leaving CBC Radio 2 for TSN. Sports are his first love. Are you really going to knock someone for doing what they love?

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
