I know this is an old story, but why is Shannon on in August? It was a train wreck listening to him try and talk to Jim Barker about CFL, embarrassing actually. I get that he knows hockey, but even then he just asks questions so he can prove he knows the answers. I know its vacation time and talent’s thin, but really, there has to be a better option.

I love the Belli segments. I’m sure he’s a love him or hate him guy, but I am firmly in the former category.

McCown continues to have guests on his show without him identifying them. With Zaun (i.e.‘Zaunie’) and Campbell, the love in about their hope to go to the Grey Cup to party like frat boys went on way to long. Shannon is bad enough but McCown really needs to be better.

I like the fact Zaun isn’t afraid to be critical, but part of me wonders if he isn’t being a bit over the top in order to make a name for himself. I really enjoy Ashby and what he brings to the radio broadcast. I also find him far more credible than Zaun, because he was a higher end #1 catcher for years in Houston catching some real great pitchers. Zaun is very quick to criticize Arencibia, almost in a jealous way. Zaun needs to remember that he was a only a #1 catcher in Toronto, on a very average team. I still like what Zaun brings but I am curious of his motives.

I suspect that Zaun has either been told to be the bad guy (since no one else there is…) to present some token voice of “balance” in the Rogers Jays conversations or that he has asummed that role because no one does and he wants to make name for himself as an “honest” analyst, not afraid to speak truth to power.

He signed a 2 year in March 2011, so clearly he feels empowered to be his own guy. Regardless of the “why”, to finally hear someone say that passing Tampa Bay into third means jacksh*t, despite McCowan reaching for the next 10 minutes to find someway from him to agree, it made me smile to hear the honesty.

McCowan used to be the honest voice who asked the hard questions, maybe that torch has been passed to Zaun??

Zaun has talked his way off every team he has ever been on. I’m told former team mates roll there eyes when he goes on like some sort of baseball Jedi, critiquing some fine points or speaking about a commitment and professionalism he was always too hangover to commit to himself.
He certainly has Bobcat eating out of his hand. But Bob falls for anyone who makes him feel like some sort of insider.
