Yeah this is pretty cool. It’ll take a little getting used to though.

I miss the home button, but I can get used to this I think.

ESPN has announced that it is dropping “All Night”, replacing it with “Sports Center Overnight” hosted by Jay Reynolds et al from 2 until 6 am.

Chef Mike, so basically repeating a half hour or one hour segment from 2 to 6? Listeners to ESPN’s overnight programming will have no reason to listen to it overnight from now on.

I like a Home Button, but that’s me, my site has one, but I’m lazy…

Chris, not sure what the whole format will be, but I suspect it will be heavy on headlines and updates, probobly a 1 or 2 hour live cycle (as opposed to taped loops). Either way, I’m long snoozing by then…

I want the home button AND the Bikini of the Day back…
As I am a 50 year old male, I generally resist change .
But as no one ever listens to our demographic, I get used to it eventually.

Bell Media announced today the extension of the industry leading TSN brand with the launch of local TSN Radio stations in the Montreal and Winnipeg markets. With a continued focus on local sports, THE TEAM 990 in Montreal is being rebranded as TSN Radio 990 and Sports Radio 1290 in Winnipeg becomes TSN Radio 1290. The stations will debut just in time for the launch of the NHL season on Wednesday, Oct. 5.

Both TSN stations will feature extensive live NHL hockey coverage with TSN Radio 990 an official broadcaster of the Montreal Canadiens and TSN Radio 1290 the home of the Winnipeg Jets. TSN Radio 990 and TSN Radio 1290 will be available nationally online at TSN.ca and on TSN Mobile.

TSN radio also picked up Live Audio Wrestling not a huge pick up but should help TSN catch 590

Meh, Live Audio Wrestling hasn’t been the same since it left The Fan but I guess it’ll reach the “right” demo. Seeing as how the Montreal station has been rebranded I guess Brunt won’t make his weekly appearance there anymore huh?

I think the LAW will help and if talk more MMA it will only bring in a new demographic to TSN

Wrestling on the radio? Egad. You have to be careful there – while you may attract some people, you may also alienate lots of others (such as me).

As for the missing B. of Day, I think it was removed simply because a lot of people – such as myself – check this site at work and it creates too many problems. To be honest, I probably wouldn’t be able to check this site if the bikini was there – since my job is too valuable to me at the moment.

The nice thing is that there is always google images (or the like) if anyone needs his fix.

Two hours a week on Sunday night/early Monday morning isn’t going to alienate people from listening to TSN Radio.

It’s a very nice under the radar pick up for them considering how big/loyal the audience for the show is no matter where the show has ended up (Fan 590, AM 640, CFRB 1010, Score Satellite Radio, podcasts, etc.).

Also, digging the redesign, TSM, great job on it.

I’m surprised at the LAW being on TSN Radio, as I thought Marek owned it. Guess not. Also, a few days ago some people here had mentioned Keith Law hadn’t been on PTS in awhile and wondered if he would be exclusively on TSN now. If it wasn’t answered, he tweeted today he was going on TSN1050 so I asked about it:

No. It was a great run, enjoyed working with @FadooBobcat and @GloBlair RT @clinchchris: @keithlaw You not appearing on the Fan 590 anymore?

Kudos on the new design TSM. Looks good!

I believe Marek sold his stake in LAW awhile back but not 100% sure.

In fairness to Kollins, whom I agree is a disaster, losing ESPN guests to TSN has NOTHING to do with him, and everything to do with TSN & ESPN having a partnership and TSN using to get/keep ESPN guests exclusive to them.

@Chris…agree the ESPN to TSN thing BUT , thefan/590 lost a whole bunch of of fantastic guests even before TSN came to air…and It is plain & simple there is only one person to blame!!

Sorry to go on and on..but, thefan/590 also gave the gas pipe to many ,many good producers (ie Brian Angus) and replaced them with non paying interns..
When the good producers left they also took their “book” of contacts with them!!

It’s time for TheFan to up the quality of their guests now that they ESPN blackout is in effect.

They should be going after the best from SI, FoxSports, etc.

I personally would love to hear from Jason Whitlock!

this is a good point. TSN is at a big competitive advantage right now because they have exclusivity on some of the top ESPN talent, and can still go after interviews from ESPN’s competitors since FOX and SI are not competitors to TSN in Canada. I don’t think the FAN could get comparable exclusivity with anyone since that would require a financial partnership with Rogers, and i don’t see FOX or SI or Yahoo doing that.

In any case, exclusivity is bad for the listener (for the most part).

Jason Whitlock would be a GREAT foil for the Bobcat especially after he writes some crazy out of left field article. I could imagine how heated their interviews could get.

I think SN/The Fan should look at getting MLB-N people for baseball talk (maybe try and get Peter Gammons?) I’ve noticed they’ve utilized more of the NFL-N people on their programming as well as Yahoo I think. The basketball stuff may be harder to get good guests for but I guess you could go for Fox Sports personnel there.

Didn’t know Brady/Lang is being simulcasted on SN1 will try to catch a bit of it tomorrow morning.

@ MIKE IN BOSTON.
soo say they get a great guest (fill in name here)
with say Blair a guy with NO RADIO SAVEY AND TURRETS TO BOOT
Dont ya think the person will never ever be a guest again and tell 5 of his friends never to guest 590 again cause it is bush??
That is what is happening now…see how many “one time guests they have”
Believe, word travels fast….
And how about Grange..comes to fan/590 to co-host PTS then gets moved to be with blair…Talk about a kick right in the pants!!

Chris – you’re obviously entitled to your opinion, but the commonly held opinion on here that Kollins has been a disaster for Rogers is a arguable one to say the least, considering that ratings have improved since he has taken over.

I’m bummed about Law not being on PTS anymore. He was a great baseball guest. Jonah Keri is very strong though (and Canadian for what it’s worth). I’d be happy if he ends up being Law’s replacement.

No offense to wrestling fans, but while a one hour Sunday night show probably won’t alienate many, I also really doubt it will make any meaningful difference in TSN’s pursuit of The Fan. Nice to have the option there for fans of WWE/MMA for sure, but there really aren’t many people listening to the radio at that time.

I didn’t see Brady/Lang today – but I wonder why they’ve incorporated the new update guy into some segments of the show?

No offense to him, but he kind of takes away from their chemistry and momentum a bit. I don’t think a third voice is needed.

I like the new format a LOT.

Great job TSM. Well organised, and easy to pick through the content I want. Nice modern feel to it as well. Very nice.

Chris F – Brunt is on Montreal radio DAILY with Melnick. There was no reference to this today. If Brunt is forced off, how do they deal with Don Taylor in Vancouver?

True Don.

Also – does CTV/TSN not also sports stations in Ottawa and Vancouver? Why brand Montreal and Winnipeg with TSN but not Ottawa or Vancouver?

I could certainly see guests not wanting to return to the Jeff Blair show – he has such tunnel vision on issues and seemingly talks over top of all his guests unless they say what he wants them to…..also he just can’t seem to leave the frustrated baseball reporter part of his psyche out of it whenever he gets a chance to dump on hockey and the NHL….yes I know Wendel Clark’s hangnail bumped your Andre Dawson ‘scoop’ 20 years ago…..but look where you live.
