Wednesday Sports Media Observations

Flew down to NYC with Pierre Mcguire yesterday, at least on the same plan with him. Thank god for my Bose noise cancelling headphones!

Speaking of flights, on my Air Canada flight I watched the movie Bad Teacher. Since when did airlines allow nudity on airplane movies? Not complaining, just asking!

The whole point of Nexus is to move people through customs quicker right? If that’s the case, why have only 1 out of 4 machines working?

Cab ride in New York city goes twice as long, takes twice as long and costs half the price of that same ride in Toronto. Go figure.

The Canadian dollar is heading south. How long before sports teams start complaining again? Many a MSMer has said the reason the NHL is afloat today is the strength in the dollar. Let’s see what happens now.

If TSN in Toronto stopped carrying the Argos/CFL would anyone care?

Is it me or do we look for trends in sports way too quickly. How many radio hosts were singing the praise of Phil Kessel today? 5 games in and all Kessel all the time. Wait till he goes in a slump.

I loved the comment on yesterdays post suggesting I have a bias to certain radio hosts. Clearly some people aren’t paying attention. Richards is paid a ton of money and is in a results business. If you want proof he is in trouble see 1 Andrew Krystal. TSN knows it’s only a matter of time before they cut their losses.

Me? I would move Cybulski to mornings.

I am not knocking Bryan Hayes. I am stating the obvious. For whatever reasons his numbers, irrespective of time slot aren’t very good. Having said that, if I had to bet for or against Hayes, I think he makes it long term.

Who took the most recent pictures of the Globe and Mail columnists. David Shoalts should insist that his twitter photo be used instead of the gem in the paper!

Nice article on Rick Dudley in today’s Toronto Sun by Steve Simmons. Know this though, Dudley loves to play golf almost as much as he loves to play the piano.

With all due respect to Bruce Arthur, I won’t miss Don Cherry when he is finally booted off the air.

I can’t vouch for anything but the request was pleasant enough. Looking to hit a bills game? Looks like you can enter for a chance to go for free.

Looking for Ribs in Toronto, pork or beef? Check out The Bone Yard on north bathurst street. Toronto’s best new rib joint.

I am not much of a race car fan. I didn’t hear squat leading up to this past weekends race. Some poor guy dies the most violent of death and it’s everywhere. That’s the world we live in right? Condolences to his family.

Bruce Arthur can have any opinion he wants, but HNIC will be just fine when Cherry finally goes away.I know i can expect an ass-kicking from some board members, but Don Cherry and his ilk is why I don’t watch hockey anymore.

His never-ending fetish for hockey violence has driven me and my 24-54 yr old, white middle class eyes to other sports, only having time for hockey during the Finals, using Coaches Corner as a good time to take a piss.

He makes CBC money, that’s his job, a job he apparently does well, i avoid CBC becasue of him.

I am by no means a rib expert but the only ribs that I eat in the Toronto area are Baton Rouge

I have to agree with The Chef. Cherry is an old man whose time has passed him. The dude has made a ton of money on hockey fight videos and gets a National Prime Time soapbox (which taxpayers pay for) to support his code of violence. There was a time I did listen to Cherry, because I thought he was hilarious, but now, time to ride off and spend your millions man. You earned it and deserve it.

Regarding the ribs….I endorse TSM’s rib king selection.

Regarding Cherry….yes the CBC will be fine without him and yes, some of his shtick is out of line. Unfortunately, if you listen to some of his straight hockey analysis, he’s still very, very knowledgeable and informative….just too bad the other shit gets in the way.

If TSN in Toronto stopped carrying the Argos/CFL would anyone care? Nope…and this is coming from a hard core CFL fan from the ’70’s, 80’s and 90’s…..

If the dollar goes back down to 0.75 or 0.80 and the Jets miss the playoffs for a few years….they’ll “take off” to Oakland and be renamed the Seals….If the dollar drops further than that….hello Kansas City Scouts for the Oilers!

PS: I like the media observations….a good piece…kinda like Friedman’s 30

Taxi might be half the price in New York, but the wait out of LaGuardia to get a taxi can be twice as long.

1 hour 15 minute flight to NY from TO, 1 hour 20 minutes in the mid town cab line…

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
